For hundreds of years the tropics have held a magical appeal to tourist from all over the world. Central America is one place that has all the magical ingredients that tourists may be looking for. To pinpoint a more exact location in Central America, there is a tiny sliver of a country wedged between Guatemala and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This country is known as Belize. Belize is a largely undiscovered jewel. Until 1981 the country now known as Belize was a dependency of the United Kingdom known as British Honduras. Although Belize’s government structure has changed five times since its independence, the people of Belize now elect a democratic government. Because it was a former British colony, Belize has a mixture of Caribbean, Latin, and British cultures. It has a population of roughly 295,000 and is the size of Massachusetts.
