2.0 History of Hairspray
Based on the 1988 film by John Waters starring Ricki Lake. Hairspray became an immediate Broadway smash when it premiered at the Neil Simon Theatre in 2002. After winning eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, its place in Broadway history was confirmed. While Hairspray can easily be compared with a number of other musical comedies of the last couple of seasons, in its own way it leaves each in the dust.
