Procedure: Part 1
Procedure Observation
1. Add 10 tea bags, 20g Na2CO3, to 225mL of boiling water Turned Black
2. Steep for 7 minutes No change
3. Decant into flask No Change
4. Add 50mL of hot water to teabags and decant Turned black
5. Combine Extracts No Change to either extract
6. Cool to room temperature and extract twice with 30mL CHCl3 Separates into two layers (clear and black)
7. Collect Organic Layer No Change
8. Dry solution with anhydrous CaCl2; Decant and evaporate Solution turns clear.
