What contribution has psychoanalytic theory made to our political understanding of racism? - Essay and Term Paper
There are two main themes, which we will explore in this essay, the first is the relationship between racism and psychoanalysis, and the second is the contribution of psychoanalytic thinking regarding the political understanding of this phenomenon. Before we continue, we have to note that racism is a social phenomenon and therefore a combination of psychological and sociological approach can give us a deeper explanation.
As a starting point of explaining a social universal phenomenon like racism, would be to isolate how and why racism occurs. Sociological perspectives focus on the reason that this phenomenon may arise, but not in the ways we relate to each other, perceive and construct them as individuals and group.
