Early Archaic Period - Essay and Term Paper
The start of Ancient Greece was 776BC. History books record this as the first Olympiad, more commonly known as the Olympic Games. Kings ruled the Greek states and cities and the political structure had only just formed. Before 776BC, there had been a lot happening and most of it had not been written down. Ancient Greek historians like Homer, Plato, Aristotle and Thucydides wrote brief accounts of what happened before the 8th Century BC, but since then there had not been much archaeological evidence of the Greek Dark Ages. One must look at the accounts of Homer. The author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, Homer recalls a Trojan War, Ionians and Athens. Thucydides although born in the 4th Century BC, wrote about a Dorian Invasion from the North and he was a philosopher and a great believer in poleis.
