Sainsbury’s was among the most respect names in the UK retail industry, holding the position of the market leader in the supermarket sector. In 1995 this title was take by Tesco’s, and by 2003 Sainsbury’s was pushed down to third by ASDA.
2004 saw the CEO Justin King begin a recovery program that promised to put an end to the amount of shoppers being lost by the company. This recovery has boasted profits and regained some of the lost market share.
This report aims to describe the current and future position of the supermarket industry as well as how Sainsbury’s is performing in relation to the industry. From the information gathered, a recommendation will be made as whether to invest in Sainsbury’s or not.
