INTRODUCTION
The subject of this written account is a historical investigation of the Impact of Taiping Rebellion, a heterodox nineteenth-century uprising from 1851 – 1864. Over the insurrection, 20 million people loss their lives, Qing imperial and Taiping rebel armies clashed in almost every province of the Chinese Empire. Qing imperial forces, with foreign aid, eventually suppressed the rebellion, but at a high cost: the Manchu rulers acquiesced to changes in the social and political strata that eventually resulted in the fall of their dynasty and the end of the traditional empire.
