The effect known as global warming occurs due to the phenomena known as the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere, allowing sun to enter, but keeps the heat trapped. This can better be explained with an example-cars left in the sun accumulate heat on the inside, because the windows allows the sun to heat the interior, but prevents the heat from escaping. Human's contribution to the global warming effect includes carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles. Global warming itself is defined to be the gradual increase of average temperature globally across a given time period.
