The appendix is a blind tube that can be found at the end of our small ceacum and the beginning of the large intestine. The full name for the appendix is the vermiform appendix, which means worm-like appendage. The appendix on average is two to eight inches long, but can either be as small as an inch or as big as a foot. The appendix is actually bigger in children then it is in adults. It is composed of lymphoid tissue and the walls of the appendix are thicker then that of the large intestine. Everyone has or has had an appendix, but why? What is the function of the appendix?
There have been many offered suggestions as to what the appendix’s function really is. It was said that the appendix might help with the exocrine, endocrine, and neuromuscular functions, when really it does not help any of those functions.
