The name Shinto comes from Chinese characters for Shen - 'divine being', and Tao - 'way'; and means 'Way of the Gods' or 'Way of the Spirits', or, best of all, 'Way of the Kami'.Within
Shinto, the Buddha was viewed as another "Kami". Buddhism in Japan regarded the Kami as being an expression of various Buddha’s. Shinto does not have as fully developed divinity as do most other religions because it does not have its own moral code. Ancestors are deeply admired and worshipped.
