Night is a memoir of the author, Elie Wiesel’s experience at a concentration camp in Germany during the third Reich, during a period named “The Holocaust”. Elie, at the start of his story, is a strong believer in God; his faith is absolute. To him, praying is like breathing: absolutely necessary and routine. When Moshe the Beadle asks Elie why he prayed, Elie thinks “Why did I pray? A strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?” However, throughout his experience during the Holocaust, his faith falters. Throughout the book, Elie’s faith is transformed as a result of his horrific experiences in the Holocaust, as proved through his prayers, his approach to Jewish Holidays, and his persistent questions to God.
