Galileo Galilei
Galileo has contributed more to the creation of modern science than anybody else in history. He was one of the first people to pioneer the areas of scientific method, physics, mathematics, and advances in technology. He also contributed to the rejection of complete allegiance to authority based solely on faith. Galileo took firm disagreements with the church on his belief in heliocentricsism, or that all planets revolve around the sun in fixed paths (Wikipedia).
He was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. His father, Vincenzo Galilei, was a musician and a mathematician. At every young age he was tutored and later, he went to the University of Pisa but was forced to leave due to lack of money. He then began teaching mechanics, geometry, and astronomy at the University of Padvia until 1610. There he also made many scientific discoveries (Wikipedia).
