10/6/06 Brook Power Seclusion from Society Solitude is the quality or state of being alone or remote from society. The theme of solitude resonates through this novel not only by the fact that a derivative form of the word solitude is visible on almost every page, but solitude is also demonstrated by all of the characters in the Buendia family. When the Buendias go through trials they isolate themselves from the society. I also noticed that most all of the Buendias end their lives in a death of extreme solitude. Even characters of the future generations in the book continue to demonstrate solitary behaviors like those of their ancestors. Ursula, the strong one who keeps the family together, shows the wearing signs of being effected by solitude.
