In today’s society there is growing concern regarding the role that media plays in the way that children and young adults view themselves, more specifically weight. There is growing debate on a healthy weight and what is considered to be underweight and obese as well as the factors contributing the increases to both of the extremes. There are many healthy alternatives in today’s market that allow people to diet and still maintain a healthy balanced diet. In contrast there is also a pressure on those in the media to portray a certain image and it seems to be rubbing off on the fans. There is no such thing as a perfect size but as one moves towards each side of the spectrum there is dangerous effects that could lead to eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia nervosa, as well as binge eating disorders all which cause harm to the body.
