Macbeth's Isolation - Essay and Term Paper
Macbeth written by William Shakespeare is set in Scotland in the 1600’s. Three witches’ tell Macbeth, the main character in the play, that Macbeth will one day be king, and Macbeth becomes gradually obsessed with this prophecy. Macbeth’s individual relationships experienced with the characters are critical to our understanding of the play. Macbeth, once a noble man, progressively forms abnormal relationships within the play and displays how he secludes himself from the other characters due to his vaulting ambition to be king. His relationships with Lady Macbeth, Duncan, and Banquo all gradually lead to his downfall as the story progresses. Macbeth’s desire to be king isolates him from being once a noble man known by most, to a violent individual by killing his king, his best friend, and losing his wife.
