Patriot Act: Civil or Not?
The United States Patriot Act although it hasn’t been around for a significantly long time has been greatly debated. The Patriot Act’s intentions are to set stricter guidelines for the U.S. to protect against the war on terrorism. Although critics of the Patriot Act say it is an invasion of the American peoples civil right, the United States should have passed the Patriot Act in 2001. The Patriot Act increases the communication between the FBI and CIA, prevents terrorist attacks, and it increases surveillance. Attorney General John Ashcroft stated the Patriot Act as being” Al Qaidas worst nightmare”(qtd. “Update:USA Patriot Act” 3).
