Are We Free to Choose?
If someone posed the question to a group of people, “do you have free will?”, the majority would say yes. But do we really have total independent power to make choices? I think people mistake free will with freedom. We are fortunate to live in a country in which we have freedoms, but that does not necessarily mean that we have free will. Free will is making a choice without any obstacles. There are times in our lives when we cannot make the choices we want because of other factors in our lives. Those factors may be family, finances, laws, religious beliefs and fate. Whatever the factor, it clearly takes away the notion of free will.
